yakusoku
"Vereinbarung, Versprechen, Vertrag" [K. Hanelt, Seite 151]

"1. A promise, stipulation, or agreement.
2. During the performance of prearranged combative forms (kata) in classical martial traditions (koryu), there are many occasions when the participants restrain their blows so as not to harm their training partner.
The use of restrained techniques ist somtimes referred to as yakusoku, indicating that an agreement is in place in which the participants have "promised" not to injure each other.

tsumeru." [D. A. Hall, Seite 552]

tsumeru
"A dueling and training technique in which the proponent would stop a strike a centimeter or so away from the target. Yagyu Muneyoshi was evidently regarded as the swordsman with the best tsumeru in his time (mid-sixteenth century), while a generation later, Miyamoto Musashi was said to be able to cut halfway through a rice grain on a person's forehead.

yakusoku geiko
